Tropical Sol, Tigaki Review

Tucked away on the idyllic island of Kos, the Tropical Sol Hotel in Tigaki is a hidden gem that combines comfort, relaxation, and authentic Greek hospitality. Ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers, this hotel offers a memorable getaway amidst stunning landscapes and rich cultural experiences. In this review, we’ll explore various aspects of the Tropical Sol Hotel, including accommodations, amenities, dining options, and the surrounding area.

Location and Accessibility

The Tropical Sol Hotel is conveniently located just a short walk from the beautiful Tigaki Beach, known for its soft sands and crystal-clear waters. This prime location allows guests to easily access the beach, making it an excellent spot for sunbathing, swimming, or enjoying water sports. The hotel is also within a half hour bus ride to the tourist destination Kos Town, where visitors can explore charming shops, tavernas, and bars, providing a taste of local life. Getting to the hotel from Kos International Airport is straightforward. The drive takes about 20-30 minutes, and transportation options include taxis and shuttle services. This ease of access makes the Tropical Sol Hotel a practical choice for travelers seeking a hassle-free vacation.

Accommodation

The Tropical Sol Hotel offers a variety of accommodation options to cater to different needs and preferences. Guests can choose from standard rooms or family rooms all designed with comfort in mind.

Upon arrival, the first thing that struck me was the blandness of the rooms. The décor was unimaginative, featuring simple furnishings that seemed more utilitarian than inviting. The walls were painted in dull colors, and the overall atmosphere felt sterile. I expected a touch of charm or local flair, but instead, I found a space that lacked personality and warmth.

Most rooms come with private balconies or terraces, the one we had acquired overlooked the main road which wasn't a very pleasant site, so we recommend requesting a garden view room as there only seems to be 1 room overlooking the pool area. The room came equipped with a small TV, a basic wardrobe, and a bed that, while functional, offered little in terms of comfort. The lack of any thoughtful touches—like complimentary water, or even a iron was not acceptable.

The décor is bright and airy, with a blend of contemporary style and traditional Greek elements. Cleanliness is a high priority, and many guests have noted that the housekeeping staff is attentive, ensuring that the rooms are kept spotless throughout their stay.

One positive was the exceptional service of the room maids. They were always there daily with a smile on their face and done the job to high standards.

Amenities and Facilities

Tropical Sol Hotel boasts a range of facilities that enhance the guest experience. The outdoor swimming pool is a focal point, surrounded by sun loungers and umbrellas, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. Children have their own dedicated pool area, allowing families to enjoy their time together while ensuring the little ones are safe. The lush gardens surrounding the property provide a peaceful environment for leisurely strolls and relaxation.

Dining Options

Dining at the Tropical Sol Hotel is a delightful experience. The main restaurant serves a buffet breakfast, offering a wide selection of dishes that cater to different tastes, from traditional Greek options to continental favorites. Guests often praise the quality and variety of the food, with fresh fruits, pastries, and hearty options available.

For lunch and dinner, the hotel features a poolside restaurant that focuses on Greek cuisine. Diners can enjoy freshly prepared dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Additionally, the hotel bar offers a range of refreshing beers, wines, and snacks, providing the perfect setting for unwinding down.

Service and Hospitality

One of the standout features of the Tropical Sol Hotel is its exceptional service. The staff members are known for their warm and welcoming attitude, always ready to assist with a smile. Guests often report feeling like part of a family rather than just another visitor. Whether it's providing local recommendations, helping with arrangements, or addressing any concerns, the attentive staff contributes significantly to the overall positive experience.

Nearby Attractions

While the Tropical Sol Hotel itself is a haven of relaxation, its location in Tigaki provides easy access to various attractions. The nearby beach is a must-visit, offering opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying water sports such as windsurfing and paddleboarding. The shallow waters make it particularly suitable for families with young children.

For those interested in exploring further, the vibrant town of Kos is just a half hour bus journey away which can be caught directly across from the hotel. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in history by visiting ancient ruins, such as the Asklepion and the Roman Odeon. The charming harbor area is lined with cafes and restaurants, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal or coffee while watching the world go by.

Nature lovers can also explore the surrounding landscapes, including the nearby mountains and picturesque villages. Rent a bike or take a leisurely stroll to discover hidden gems and breathtaking views that the island has to offer.

ALL IN ALL

With its prime location and warm hospitality, it provides an ideal base for exploring the beautiful island of Kos. Whether you're lounging by the pool, savoring delicious meals, or embarking on local adventures, the Tropical Sol Hotel offers a memorable experience that leaves guests wanting to return. However my stay at the Tropical Sol Hotel was characterized by its starkly basic rooms and a lack of attention to detail that left me feeling disappointed. If you’re looking for a simple, no-frills option, this might suffice, but for those seeking a more enjoyable and comfortable experience in beautiful Tigaki, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
