Costway Portable Steam Sauna Review – Is It Worth It?
If you’re looking for an affordable and easy way to enjoy the benefits of a sauna at home, the Costway Portable Steam Sauna might be a great option. I recently had the chance to test this product, and I’ll break down my experience—from assembly to actual use—so you can decide if it’s right for you.
First Impressions & Setup
Right out of the box, the sauna consists of a foldable tent, a steam generator, a small foldable chair, and a few accessories like a foot massager and an herbal box. The setup process was fairly straightforward, though putting together the frame took a little effort. The tent fabric fits tightly over the frame, which helps with heat retention but can make assembly tricky the first time.
Once assembled, the unit stands about 40.5 inches tall and 31.5 inches wide, which is compact enough to fit in most spaces. When not in use, it folds down neatly for easy storage.
Design & Features
The sauna tent is made of waterproof insulated fabric, which helps trap heat inside while keeping moisture from seeping through. The 3L steam generator is made of stainless steel and heats up quickly. It has 9 adjustable temperature levels and a timer that can be set from 15 to 90 minutes—plenty of flexibility depending on how intense you want your session to be.
A remote control is included, allowing you to adjust the settings without having to unzip the tent and reach for the controls, which is a nice touch.
Another cool feature is the herbal box, where you can add essential oils or herbs for aromatherapy benefits. If you enjoy scents like eucalyptus or lavender, this adds to the relaxation experience.
Performance & Comfort
Once I turned on the steam generator, it started producing steam in about 5–10 minutes. The temperature builds up quickly, and within 15 minutes, I was sweating profusely. The maximum temperature reaches about 149°F (65°C), which is quite effective for a deep sweat session.
The foldable chair included with the sauna is functional but not the most comfortable for extended use, especially if you're taller or have back issues. I recommend using a sturdier chair if you plan on longer sessions.
The foot massager is a nice bonus, though I didn’t find it essential. However, it does add a bit of extra relaxation, especially if you’ve been on your feet all day.
Ease of Cleaning & Maintenance
One thing to keep in mind is moisture buildup. Since the tent traps steam, condensation forms inside, and you’ll need to wipe it down after each use to prevent mold or mildew. I also recommend leaving it open to air out after each session.
The steam generator needs to be emptied and dried regularly as well, especially if you use essential oils or herbs. Fortunately, the unit is easy to clean, and maintenance doesn’t take much time.

ALL IN ALL – Is It Worth It?
Overall, I found the Costway Portable Steam Sauna to be a great investment for anyone wanting a convenient home sauna experience without spending thousands on a full-sized unit. It gets hot quickly, is easy to store, and offers a relaxing, sweat-inducing experience.
That said, comfort is a key factor—you may want to replace the chair for a more enjoyable session. Also, maintenance is necessary to keep it in good shape, but that’s expected with any steam sauna.
If you’re looking for an affordable, portable sauna for relaxation and detox, I’d say this is definitely worth considering.
